Norm Tonina
Business & Organization Excellence Consulting
Norm Tonina joined Microsoft in 1993 after several years
as a Senior Software Business Manager with Digital Equipment Corporation where
he was responsible for pricing and licensing operating systems and software
products. He then migrated from finance to human resources at Microsoft in
1999. Norm has held a series of corporate HR functional leadership positions
and has directed major strategic global HR initiatives in the areas of executive
and high potential development and organization effectiveness. He played a key
role in launching Microsoft's People and Organization Capability (P&OC) center
and has been responsible for HR strategy development and program and services
deployment world-wide. Norm most recently served as P&OC's General Manager,
leading and directing major change management initiatives focused on company
culture, talent management, and leadership development. He retired from
Microsoft in May 2008 and now heads Business & Organization Excellence, a small
consulting company focusing on strengthening strategy and organizational
alignment and increasing leadership effectiveness. He has also been an adjunct
faculty member for the graduate level HR program at Antioch University in
Seattle and has taught at the University of Washington's Technology Management
MBA Program. Norm is part of a small team that is currently working with the
University of Washington to design and launch a new advanced strategic HR
certificate program. He will also join the faculty when the program debuts in
2010.
