MESSAGE FROM THE
PRESIDENT
To
say that 2010 is the latest in a series of change-filled years is a
dramatic understatement. For us, this year has included an unexpected
talent management challenge as Angie Barrie, 2010 President of the PNW
HR Strategic Forum, has moved to Newport Beach, CA and is unable to
complete her term with us. We miss Angie as a friend and a leader. We
thank her for her active participation in and advocacy of the group and
for her many years of service on our Board of Directors.
For
the remainder of 2010, Linda Mangone and Jon Anastasio will step-in and
share the leadership role. Jon and Linda have both previously served in
PNW-HRSF Executive Committee positions and have a long history with our
affiliate. They, along with other Executive Committee and Board members,
will work hard to ensure that the organization continues to offer a
strong and compelling value proposition to our corporate and individual
membership. Pete Shipp, our President-elect, will assume the Presidency
as planned in 2011. As has been customary, we will nominate a new 2011
President-Elect (to serve as President in 2012) for approval by our
members around the time of our annual Fall Conference.
And
speaking of our annual Fall Conference, please save November 4, 2010
on your calendar for a day spent on the subject of:
Renewing Workforce
Commitment
We
are excited to bring Kenny Moore, author of The CEO and the Monk,
to the Pacific Northwest for the first time. As the senior HR executive
at Brooklyn Union, the largest utility company on the east coast, Kenny
(the Monk) navigated a change effort that involved the merger of two
companies that had existed for decades, and that had each earned
tremendous employee loyalty. His success in building workforce
commitment to the new company is well documented in his book and we are
delighted to have him share the lessons he learned and the practices he
developed. Kenny’s ability to talk about important business issues in
very practical terms with authentic warmth and humor is unparalleled,
and you are in for a treat. Kenny will set the stage for practical
application in a workshop setting at the Cedarbrook conference facility
in SeaTac.
We
hope to see you there. In the meantime, you can find out more about
Kenny at
www.kennythemonk.com.
We
will be sharing information with you over the coming weeks about the
specific dates and arrangements for three other afternoon programs that
are being planned:
September 23, 2010:
Recognizing and Changing Organizational “DNA” to Increase Company
Performance, with Dr. Miles Overholt
Dr.
Overholt, and other nationally known consultants and researchers, have
developed a proven methodology that identifies the core values and
beliefs of an organization and measures the extent to which the key
drivers of strategic performance are aligned and effective. By examining
the cohesiveness of the business strategy, leadership, talent and
organization capability, key gaps and opportunities can be identified
and the right investment in change can then improve organizational
capability and results. Based on cross industry research, Miles will
present the growing body of research, share the assessment model and
provide case study examples of a number of areas including impacting
employee engagement and increasing customer satisfaction. This is ground
breaking research with powerful application. PNW-HRSF is pleased to be
the first venue to showcase and share this work.
December, 2010: Year-end Meeting featuring a keynote speaker, a
review of 2010 and opportunities to connect with colleagues.
January, 2011: Five
Domains of High Performance with Jay Jamrog, SVP of Research for I4CP
Dr.
Jamrog will share research on what high market-performing companies are
doing differently with their people initiatives versus lower performing
companies, and identify how you can use this information to
differentiate your company.
We
hope you have a wonderful summer and look forward to seeing you in
September!
